🆕 Updated for Eco 14 — “Garbage & Recycling” — this server and these numbers now reflect the new version. What changed →
  • Byproducts: nearly every recipe now leaves waste behind, so recipe pages list byproducts alongside ingredients.
  • Garbage & recycling: waste sorts from mixed garbage down to pure materials, and can be recycled back into stock.
  • Pollution has four kinds: acid rain, chemical, soil and heavy mineral, each settling into the ground differently. Pollution guide →
  • Modules reworked: upgrades are now Basic / Advanced / Modern / Specialty, one per slot, driving the same bonus system as talents. Module guide →
  • Fresh water: machines need it — water drawn from the ocean has to be desalinated first.

The character calculator has been updated for these changes. Read the garbage & recycling guide →

Waste product from concentrating ore. When stored improperly the run-off will create heavy mineral pollution; killing nearby plants and seeping into the water supply. Burying it does nothing; only sealed containment holds it back.

Tailings are the waste product left over from concentrating ore, such as when producing Dry Iron Concentrate. If left on the surface, they create ground pollution that kills nearby plants and can seep into the water supply, so you should bury them deep underground to help neutralize the effect. Each block of tailings has a ground pollution value of 2, and because they stack only to 10, you will need to plan for substantial storage as your mining operation scales up.
